The design for Blu Residences incorporates Rincon Place, Transbay, and General Plan guidelines for downtown San Francisco to create residential density while preserving sunlight, air, streetscape, open space.

Located on a narrow site in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood, the project consists of a 21-story residential tower over a single-story podium containing retail space and a residential lobby along. The storefront facade is setback to align with the existing street-wall. Further enhancing the pedestrian street life will be the new open space park between 633 and 631 Folsom.

Blu Residences's massing is tall and slender in order to maintain view corridors and provide residential units with the maximum amount of natural light possible, while supporting a livable streetscape with ample sunlight and air. The glass storefront along Folsom Street is set back to align with the existing street wall and maximize the façade's transparency. A new open space between 631 and 633 Folsom contains outdoor seating and art.

The stepped articulation along the south, east and west facades work to break down the mass of the tower further and give the design a degree of visual interest and urban scale. The light colored pre-cast, bluish colored glass and metal curtain wall will give the facades of the project an expression or lightness and transparency that will enhance the surrounding environment. The overall architectural design of this project is to create a residential project that is contemporary in its design, livable and adds urban scale to the Folsom Street corridor.
