Handel Architects’ New York office is currently seeking a detail-oriented Architectural Designer to assist with the Construction Administration services for the final phase of Journal Squared, a three-tower, 2.3 million sq. ft. development in Jersey City. Just a quick PATH trip from our office, Journal Squared has transformed Jersey City with an influx of new residents. We are excited to complete the final phase of this transformative project and are looking for someone that shares our passion for creating positive urban change through well-executed design.

While initially this employment opportunity focuses on Construction Administration, we intend to transition the new employee to all phases of design once the Journal Squared project is completed.


  • Reviewing and processing shop drawings and tracking open and priority items for review
  • Reviewing samples, substitutions, and mock-ups for use in the project
  • Preparing sketches and supplemental documentation in response to Contractor RFIs or design/coordination changes
  • Bi-weekly site visits and Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings
  • Assembling Field Observation Reports and tracking open issues
  • Participating in coordination meetings
  • Coordinating documentation and reviewing project data for compliance to applicable codes and standards


  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • 3-5 years of post-graduate professional experience required, preferably in high-rise multi-family and mixed-use development
  • Understanding of construction practices in NYC
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and MS Office
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, tight deadlines and work on various tasks concurrently
  • Excellent graphic presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented team-player
  • Strong critical thinking skills, an ability to carry out design concept to realization
  • Familiarity with building codes is a plus
