The shifting boxes that make up 85 Jay create the appearance of an undulating facade, while offering opportunities for outdoor space.

85 Jay Street is a 1.1M sq. ft. residential and school project proposed in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood. The project takes up a full city block, and was designed as four separate buildings that surround a central courtyard, which would be publicly accessible from all four surrounding streets. The structures connect above, in the form of sky bridges that create dramatic views into the site. To maximize views and create a distinct profile on the skyline, the residential modules shift in and out along the facade, giving the appearance of stacked boxes; an homage to Safdie’s classic Habitat 67.
