1401 Brickell officially under construction for Santander

Project will top out at 50 stories in Miami’s Financial District.

1401 Brickell is now officially underway in Miami, with a groundbreaking on April 8th. The 50-story mixed-use tower was designed as the new regional office for Banco Santander, and will be one of the most sustainable office buildings in the world. Handel Architects Managing Partner Gary Handel and Associate Principal Stephen Sheng joined city officials and representatives from Banco Santander for the groundbreaking.

Quoting Ana Botín, Executive Chair of Banco Santander: “Miami has long been central to our U.S. story. We opened our first private banking office here in 1979, and our growth in Miami continues to this day, with the opening of the Santander Work Café and new Openbank location in recent years. The U.S. is a highly strategic market for Santander where we continue to invest. Our recently announced agreement to acquire Webster Bank, and now the groundbreaking of 1401 Brickell, underscore our commitment to the U.S. and confidence in our franchise here.”

Designed for Santander, with Rilea Group as Development Advisor and Project Manager, and built by Coastal Construction Company.
