Santander’s Brickell Office to be Demolished for New 41-Story Tower
Constructionreview
Workplace design has evolved dramatically in recent years, shifting from rigid, cubicle-based layouts to more flexible and human-centered environments. This transformation is driven by a growing understanding that physical space influences productivity, creativity, and employee well-being. Modern offices now incorporate a wide range of amenities, from on-site gyms and wellness rooms to cafés and nap pods, and are designed to support work-life balance and attract top talent. These features reflect a broader cultural shift toward valuing the employee experience as a driver of business success.
Our clients select us to design buildings that attract and retain talent, meet corporate and shareholder goals through high performance design, and make a mark on skylines in cities globally. Projects include Winthrop Center, the largest Passive House project in the world, as well as two new buildings for Banco Santander in Santiago and in Miami.
Winthrop Center includes over 1.8M sq. ft. of residential, office, and retail space. It is also home to global firms such as Cambridge Associates, McKinsey, and Deloitte, all of whom recognized the value in relocating to a building that reflected their corporate sustainability goals.
“One of the most important considerations for us as we selected Winthrop Center was the property’s bold commitment to sustainability. While our work in sustainable and impact investing is valued by a large portion of our clients, it is essential that our commitment to sustainability shows up beyond investment portfolios and within the walls of our firm as well. We will be able to meet our own significant commitments to sustainability and carbon reduction thanks to Winthrop Center’s approach to responsible, resourceful and renewable office space.” - Cambridge Associates
Handel Architects was selected to design a new headquarters building in Santiago for Banco Santander; following that we were selected for their new tower in downtown Miami. Both buildings blend indoor and outdoor spaces and provide access to daylight, fresh air, views, and nature. The designs of each support employee satisfaction and productivity at the same time as their health & wellness.
We understand the value of design that is both iconic and grounded in a particular place. In San Francisco, our 531 Bryant creates a strong presence through large windows in muscular metal frames, while relating to the neighborhood's industrial past. In Boston, 2 Harbor was designed to reflect the character of the surrounding marine industrial buildings.
