Columbia University graduate students learned about the sustainable design approach behind our precedent-setting East Harlem building.
Handel's Director of Sustainable Design, Louis Koehl, led a tour of Sendero Verde for Build it Green, a Columbia University group advocating for sustainability in the built environment. The students learned about the design approach behind the East Harlem development, which delivers housing for over 700 families at different income bands.
Sendero Verde is the largest Passive House residential building in North America and the largest fully affordable Passive House building in the world, proving that large-scale affordable housing can be designed to meet the world’s most rigorous sustainability standards.
