Twenty-five years later, we remember September 11 not only as a day of unimaginable loss, but as a moment that changed the world. The memorial was created to make absence visible, to give people a place to come together and remember the lives that were taken. As the years pass and fewer people have personal memories of that day, remembering becomes an even greater responsibility. We must continue to tell the stories of those we lost and to honor the courage and compassion shown in the aftermath.
On the 25-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the National September 11 Memorial continues to serve to make absence visible.
