First Pool Planned for NYC, with Other Cities to Follow

Handel Architects is proud to support +POOL, an innovative water-filtering swimming facility designed to float in the waters surrounding New York City. A recent joint-announcement from the city and state promised $16 million in funding. A demonstration project will open this summer, with the goal of opening to the public in the following year.

+POOL strives to reclaim NYC’s waterways through supporting the preservation, restoration and conservation of natural bodies of water, and by promoting water stewardship, providing quality swim instruction and environmental education. This funding is part of a larger New York State initiative called NY SWIMS – a program that will deliver $150 million in grant funding to expand swimming access and education across the state, with a focus on underserved communities.
