36 Tehama is composed of delicate bands of metal which frame floor-to-ceiling windows of glass.

36 Tehama is a new 185-key micro hotel located in San Francisco’s Transbay District on the very narrow Tehama Street. The slender, 25-story tower will replace a 4,000 sq.ft. parking lot that is wedged between buildings of a variety of scales. Rooms will measure an average of 180 square feet, offering an efficient, stylish and affordable option for travelers.

The hotel’s first six floors are composed of glass blocks floated above one another and staggered to provide breathing room for the adjacent structures. The transparency of the first few floors will help to activate the tight street conditions along Tehama, and a 6-story punched metal wall will hint at activity behind it. Above, the tower's two-story window bays are framed in charcoal-grey metal. Bands of textured metal panels run vertically along the outside of each window. These panels, which have been 'dimpled' to create texture, become the predominant facade on the other three sides of the building.

The hotel is topped with an enclosed lounge on the Tehama Street side and an open rooftop bar overlooking 524 Howard.
