Four Seasons Private Residences 706 Mission takes design cues from the adjacent Aronson Building and the linear forms in the plaza below.

Four Seasons Private Residences 706 Mission is a 43-story residential tower and museum in downtown San Francisco. The tower houses 128 residential units and connects to the adjacent 1903 Aronson Building, an historic building that was restored and rehabilitated as part of the project.

The massing of the Four Seasons was carved to form a series of alternating glass and masonry volumes, creating vertical strips of material that relate to the linear landscaping of the Jessie Square plaza on which the tower fronts. Taken together, the plaza and tower create a seamless expression of alternating bands of light and dark. The tower's vertical masonry was also organized to visually connect with the strong vertical expressions of brick and terracotta of the Aronson Building next door.

Full glass allows for expansive views from the main living spaces, while the ground level experience was energized by the renovated Aronson building, which helps to maintain pedestrian rhythm and scale.

The 10-story Aronson building was built by Abraham Aronson in 1903.

Originally designed by San Francisco architecture firm Hemenway & Miller, it survived both the 1906 earthquake & fire and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and stands today looking much as it did in 1906. It is significant for its design which is recognized as the most elaborate design in the Chicago School style.

Working with Page & Turnbull, Handel Architects is renovating and restoring the building, converting levels two through four to space for the new Mexican Museum, and levels five through ten to loft residences. The ground level will house the residential lobby and retail space. The building's historic façade is being preserved and rehabilitated.
