House 39 holds the corner of East 39th Street with a gently curving facade.

House 39 is a 372-unit residential building in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. The building is visually composed of two volumes, one solid and rectilinear in form and the other more gentle and curving. The rectilinear volume sets back from the street as it reaches 39th Street and connects to the curvilinear volume, which holds the corner at 39th Street. The curve of the glass façade was designed to offer visual relief in an area of unremarkable architecture; the glass entrance is set back from the street, and the curving form creates breathing room on the corner.

Building façades are mostly glass, with limestone to break up the volumes, and vertical metal panels interspersed throughout, inspired by the concept of raindrops running down glass. This concept is repeated on the building’s curving façade in the form of contrasting shades of glass.

House 39 includes on-site attended parking with a porte cochere. Residences feature floor-to ceiling windows providing natural light and great views. Interiors are by Rockwell Group and landscape design is by Future Green. The high-ceilinged lobby features undulating slatted walls with a spiral staircase leading to the second level. Landscaped terraces at the second floor and the roof include a firepit, outdoor kitchens, a whirlpool, and a children’s outdoor play area. Indoor amenity spaces feature a spa and sauna, fitness center, yoga studio, lounges, demonstration kitchen, a children’s playroom, and bike storage.
