The Kaine Tower is composed of interlocking curvilinear volumes, designed to stand out from the surrounding architecture.

The Kaine Tower is a new 530,000 SF commercial project located on the Qiantang River, and overlooking the old city. The project includes commercial office space, and 40,000 SF of ground level retail. Handel Architects collaborated with Lian Jiang from Kaine to master plan the project, design the façade and develop the entry and amenity experience.

The tower is composed of a series of volumes that interlock with one another, narrowing as the tower rises. The lower volumes mirror one another as they fall away, culminating in a single form that rises 33 stories. Extensive outdoor amenity spaces sit atop the lower volumes, providing views over the river. Designed to stand out from the more rectilinear shapes of the neighboring structures, the tower volumes gently curve into one another, creating a clean, modern expression. The facade is designed to appear sophisticated and minimal, and is consistent across all volumes.

The tower's two entrances are defined by a curving stone wall that leads guests through an elegant outdoor entry experience. Overhead canopies have been punctured to create open volumes above, and lead to double height lobbies inside.
