Pod Hotel
The Pod Hotel on 42nd Street creates a trapezoid form clad in glass and metal panels.
This 478-key Midtown Manhattan boutique hotel consists of rooms designed for pleasure seekers and business travelers alike, providing a sense of 'micro-luxury' – efficient, well designed rooms akin to a ship’s quarters. The tower also houses 38 larger extended-stay units, a 29th floor skybar with outdoor wading pool and VIP space, a third floor skylit lobby, café, restaurant, gym, and a mezzanine lounge hovering above the lobby. 25,000 sq.ft. of retail space wraps the first and second floors.
The exterior aluminum cladding system was designed to be manufactured off-site as modular, and shipped to the site, pre-glazed and ready for installation. This approach offered significant schedule and cost savings, while enabling better quality control through shop fabrication.
