Handel Architects' proposal for Stanford uses a modular, precast concrete construction system.

Handel Architects’ concept for Stanford University proposes almost 900 workforce oriented residential units across two separate sites totaling 13.5 acres. Each site includes multiple buildings arranged around a central quad, with tower elements reaching 135’.

The Stanford Housing proposal thoughtfully merges high-density development within an otherwise suburban campus, and the design maximizes common areas and open space to maintain a campus-oriented character while providing university sponsored, market-rate housing intended to accommodate post-doctoral students and Stanford staff. The proposal also includes a variety of amenities, including pedestrian and bicycle connections, parking areas, family-oriented outdoor playgrounds, a convenience market and on-site childcare facilities. The project utilizes a modular, precast concrete construction system to accelerate construction and delivery of the project, and an architectural “fluted” façade language responds to the various organic textures prevalent in the surrounding arboretum of the site.
