The Bellslip, Greenpoint Landing
The Bellslip complements the existing architecture at Greenpoint Landing with a lighter material palette.
Located on 22-acres of waterfront in Brooklyn, Greenpoint Landing transformed this formerly industrial area into a new multi-building development. The plan reestablished the neighborhood’s waterfront connection through the creation of new streets, new housing, new waterfront parks, and a new public school, all designed to integrate into Greenpoint’s already thriving, diverse community.
The Bellslip, which opened in 2022, consists of 414 rental units, 124 of which are designated affordable. Amenities include a co-work / conference work area; lounge; fitness studios, yoga & exercise rooms; kid’s play room; dog wash room; and two exterior terraces and pool deck totaling about 20,700 SF. The 30-story tower and podium have been sited to maintain view corridors to the waterfront, while offering the building’s residents spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline.
The Bellslip maintains the manufacturing heritage of its context, but with a lighter palette than the previous buildings at Greenpoint Landing. Two smaller volumes frame a central larger one, and are expressed in a skin composed of a double-story gridded brick facade in a blend of three brick colors. Atop each of these two volumes is a 4-story recessed penthouse, clad in darker window wall. The larger central volume is composed of an articulated window-wall, in a two-story grid pattern with vertical extruded metal elements and two different slab cover profiles, alternating on every other floor.
