The Bower

The scale and character of The Bower is inspired by the robust industrial-era charm of the warehouse buildings in The Yards district.

The Bower is a new 125-unit condominium building in Washington DC’s burgeoning Navy Yard neighborhood. The building is designed to reflect the industrial character, materials, and textures of the site’s historic Navy Yard.

A robust masonry-framed base includes inset industrial dark metal divided-light windows above large storefronts. The storefronts themselves continue the divided-light window concept to the ground, creating an intimate pedestrian experience. Above, a central dominant mass with an industrial metal-framed loft vocabulary is arranged in a saw-tooth fashion, with the residential balconies defining the shape. Articulated rooftop “clerestories” emerge from the top, consistent with the surrounding industrial-era warehouse buildings.
