Status Completed in 2009

The View was designed to maximize views as well as opportunities for outdoor space.

The View at Queens West is a 258,000 sq. ft. residential building along the East River in Long Island City, Queens. Built on remediated land, The View includes 184 condominiums, each one with expansive views. Yards, terraces, and balconies provide a variety of private spaces for residents.

The View faces directly toward Midtown Manhattan, and the building has been shaped to maximize the exposure. The massing is C-shaped, rotated so that the interior of the letter faces Manhattan. A double-loaded corridor creates units at both the front and back of the building, but by shaping the perimeter of the building, even the rear units have views.

The exterior is comprised of brick, granite and metal panel. At the street level, a display of dichroic glass panels have been installed to catch and refract the light. This display is carried into the lobby interior as well, serving as a backdrop to the concierge desk. The desk itself is formed from layers of curved wood panels, which are offset from one another. Interior finishes are clean and modern, including marble baths, black granite kitchen counters, and lacquer cabinetry. Floor-to-ceiling windows maximize the building’s sight-lines.
