Union House uses warm materials and bronzed panels to create an elegant presence and graceful entrance along Union Street.

Union House is a new 7-story boutique condominium on the border of the Pacific Heights and Russian Hill neighborhoods in San Francisco. The building has been meticulously designed with an eye toward contemporary but contextual design. Located at the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Union Street, the building steps down to mediate the scale between the medium density housing fabric on Van Ness and the more intimate scale of the buildings along Union. The sloped nature of the site creates the opportunity for a grand entrance on Union, as well as a prime corner retail space.

The building is carved and broken into individual blocks that sit within one another, breaking down the scale of the massing. Drawing from the rich material palette of Pacific Heights and Russian Hill, a warm colored precast concrete combines with bronze colored panels to create a building image that is elegant and refined. The entranceway itself was designed to create a feeling of grandeur, and has been subtly lit from a bronze canopy that extends out and over the sidewalk. Abundant glass allows the lobby chandelier to act as a beacon when viewed from the outside.

Interiors include European oak, Italian Calacatta marble, and polished nickel, and are furnished with state-of-the-art Miele appliances and refined Waterworks fixtures. Oversized, acoustically-engineered windows provide a quiet interior experience, while allowing an abundance of natural light to flow into each residence.
