Presentation featured a case study of 145 Broome to discuss the tradeoff between embodied and operational carbon in passive house buildings.
In his presentation, "Whole Carbon Passive House: Balancing Operational and Embodied Carbon in Multifamily Passive House," Handel Architects' Director of Sustainable Design Louis Koehl used a whole-building life cycle carbon assessment (WBLCA) of 145 Broome Street to examine how strategies to reduce operational carbon influence embodied carbon in multifamily construction. 145 Broome Street is a 190-unit Passive House-certified affordable senior housing project currently under construction in the Lower East Side.
