Emanuel Nine Memorial Breaks Ground in Charleston

After years of fundraising, Emanuel Nine Memorial recently broke ground in Charleston, SC.

The Emanuel Nine Memorial will be a new public space dedicated to the lives and sacrifices of the Emanuel Nine, the clergy and church members who were murdered in 2015 at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. It will honor the nine victims and five survivors while creating welcoming outdoor spaces for the congregation and surrounding community.

A mock-up of the memorial was recently installed at the site. This preview is a 6’ wide by 9’ tall section of one of the Fellowship Benches, one of which will be 64’ long and the other 80’ long. It will remain in place until Phase 1 of construction is complete.
