Handel Architects LLP is proud to announce that our ongoing efforts to improve the urban environment in Boston has been recognized by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects with an Honor Award for Urban Design. For almost twenty years, our work in Boston has been dedicated to creating a more active, vibrant streetscape along the Washington Street Corridor in the Midtown Cultural District. The submission described a history of inchoate attempts to transform the old “Combat Zone”, and illustrated how our work combining concise tactical urban design with the high-rise, mixed-use residential building type in the historic city center could provide the critical mass to fulfill the city’s goal for effective urban revitalization.
