Session Titled "Go West, Passive House Multifamily!"
Join Sustainable Design Director Louis Koehl and Denver Office Director Ryan Lobello as they discuss the barriers to large-scale Passive House projects on the West Coast. The online session, "Go West, Passive House Multifamily!", will be held on Thursday, October 5th at 02:45pm Denver time. Learn more and sign up here!
Multifamily Passive House buildings are scaling in the Northeast but have yet to in the West. Policy is a factor, but mystery is a barrier, too. How will it work in the West? Let's look at a small development in Denver and then run a thought experiment, moving an existing 100-unit Passive House building from New York and optimizing it for Denver, CO, and San Jose, CA. Let's clear the static, see the effort needed, and grasp a pathway forward to Passive House multifamily development.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how multifamily design and construction goals can closely align with the Passive House methodology's strengths.
Outline how the levers of Passive House performance can be adjusted in design and construction, from assemblies to systems, to make climate-specific solutions.
Describe how a representative multifamily building type can achieve Passive House performance from NYC to Denver to the Bay Area.
- Outline critical drivers of Passive House multifamily buildings as they become all-electric and are realized across the US: East and West, North and South.
