HRP ALX Condominium Residences is a new waterfront residential tower in Alexandria, Virginia, just south of DC. The project is one of new buildings that will be part of a transformative redevelopment of an 18-acre former coal fired power plant into a vibrant and walkable mixed-use district in Old Town Alexandria, with views of the Capitol Skyline. When complete, the entire development will include 2.5M SF of new residential, retail, restaurants, and commercial office space, as well as over 10 acres of public open space, transforming this area into a vibrant, mixed-use and walkable community.

The oval-shaped HRP ALX Condominium Residences is strategically positioned in the center of the development, where it is organized to maximize light and air for residents, as well as for the adjacent HRP ALX Rental Residences. The condo building has been designed to take advantage of unobstructed views to the Potomac River, as well as the Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol beyond. The tower fronts onto a new waterfront central plaza that is being designed as part of the overall development and opens up to this plaza with new retail options.

Together, the two towers were conceived of as a pearl within an oyster, with the smooth glass of the condo building contrasting with the more textural facade of the rental building which cradles it. The curving glass form of the condo building is broken only by a few vertical slots cut into the facade wrapper, exposing the inset balconies. High-performance glazing was selected to mirror the shifting colors and light of the Potomac River, creating a facade that evolves throughout the day.

HRP ALX Condominium Residences will include 96 luxury units, along with 10,600 square feet of amenities, including a pool and a rooftop terrace.
