Riverwalk Park is the first newly constructed, permanently affordable housing ever developed on Roosevelt Island.

Riverwalk Park is Handel Architects' newest 100% affordable building in New York City, and is the first newly constructed, permanently affordable housing ever developed on Roosevelt Island. The 340-unit building brings much needed affordable, middle-income and workforce housing to the city and contains a mix of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedrooms, many of which have stunning views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline beyond. Also included are a tenant lounge, exercise and yoga rooms, party room, and a bike storage area.

Riverwalk Park is arranged in an L-shape configuration with each of the two intersecting volumes clad in brick of rich, contrasting colors. Visual elements of each volume bleed into the other as well, creating visual cohesion. The glass and metal portions of the window wall are done in a clean horizontal grain, and are juxtaposed by the vertical grain of the brick piers that surround them. The piers are articulated as double column, with recesses clad in a darker brick shade, creating a regular pattern and visual interest. Separating the two volumes and breaking down the mass of the building is a ribbon of window wall.

The interior color palette was based on a mid-century modern imagery, with grey-blues, walnuts and lighter oak wood, as well as blue-grey marble tiles and black metal trim to produce crisp edges and transitions from surface to surface.
