The Ellery
The Ellery is a new luxury rental building in New York City, designed to offer a Zen-like experience and a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of this part of town.
Located on a through-block site, The Ellery is composed of both a high- and low-rise portion, which connect together via a collection of shared amenity spaces. Both towers, high-rise and low-rise, have been designed to address the context of the neighboring buildings on the street on which they sit.
On the southern portion of the site along West 42nd Street, a 33-story tower sits atop a retail podium. Above, the tower’s torqued vertical metal banding creates a sense of movement to the facade, and is in keeping with the look and feel of the buildings that define 42nd Street. On quieter West 43rd Street, a 7-story building embraces the neighboring punched window buildings through the use of masonry and horizontal banding. The Ellery's entrance is accessed through a monumental planted canopy; a metal screen is shaped to echo the façade along West 42nd Street while offering glimpses inside to passers by.
