    Frank Fusaro AIA

    Partner

    Frank Fusaro is a Partner in the New York City office of Handel Architects LLP. His work has been widely recognized for its bold interpretation of context, scale and local materiality.

    Mr. Fusaro’s projects include the adaptive reuse of the Annex to the National Maritime Union into the destination Dream Downtown Hotel in West Chelsea; Mr. Fusaro led both the architecture and interior design, and the project was featured in Interior Design Magazine. Following this, Mr. Fusaro completed 170 Amsterdam Avenue, a residential building that uses a concrete exoskeleton structure, the first in New York City; the project was featured in Architectural Record. More recently, Mr. Fusaro led the design for Enclave at the Cathedral, a new residential building next door to The Cathedral of St. John the Divine; the project was awarded a 2017 Housing Design Award from AIANY.

    Current work includes the revitalization and adaptive reuse of Pier 57 on Manhattan’s West Side including a new public park, office and marketplace. He is also serving as Lead Designer for Inspir, a new concept for high-rise assisted living for client Maplewood Senior Living; and The Essex and The Artisan, two new mixed-use buildings on the Lower East Side.

    Mr. Fusaro’s projects have received recognition from the American Institute of Architects, The Society of Registered Architects of New York, Architizer A+ Awards, NCSEA, Interior Design Magazine, Boutique Design Magazine, World Architecture News (WAN), The Concrete Industry Board, The Urban Land Institute and the American Council of Engineering. His work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Architecture, Architectural Record, Interior Design, Boutique Design, Surface and Hotel Business among others.

    Mr. Fusaro is licensed in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas School of Architecture and Environmental Design. He currently lives in New York City with his wife and two children and serves as a volunteer member of the Building Committee at the City & Country School in Greenwich Village.
