321 West is the first real world application of an innovative technique called Performance-Based Wind Design (PBWD).

The project was featured on the cover of the June issue of Engineering News-Record for pioneering this new technique. The article predicts that PBWD may be a standard feature of skyscraper engineering within the next 10-15 years.
