Handel Architects leads two conversations at 2022 Greenbuild Conference

Director of Sustainable Design Louis Koehl and Senior Associate Emil Stojakovic each discuss sustainable design approaches at Greenbuild in San Francisco.

Handel Architects is a supporter of Greenbuild, which brings thousands of sustainability professionals together each year.

This year two Handel Architects projects were discussed. "Beyond Sustainability: How Sendero Verde Serves as a Model for an Affordable, Resilient, Passive House 'Community of Opportunity' in Harlem" was presented by Louis Koehl, the firm's Director of Sustainability. And "Sven: a Case Study" was presented by Senior Associate Emil Stojakovic. Both feature projects that are at the forefront of sustainable design.

Nearly completed in East Harlem, Sendero Verde will be the world's largest fully affordable Passive House building.

This presentation focused on how the Passive House design standard was applied, and how the benefits of Passive House design extend beyond the certification boundary to the non-certified community spaces. It also discusses the benefits of Passive House design on occupant health and comfort through compartmentalization, improved indoor air quality and thermal comfort, filtration and ventilation with energy recovery, and improved acoustics.
