Project honored for setting new standard for sustainable, affordable housing.
We are proud that Sendero Verde has been recognized with a design award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design!
Sendero Verde is the largest Passive House-certified residential building in the world. It is designed to reduce energy consumption through a high-performance building envelope, triple-glazed windows, airtight construction, and advanced ventilation and energy recovery systems. A 208.8 kW rooftop solar array and stormwater recycling systems further enhance efficiency and resilience. The project’s 18,000 SF publicly accessible courtyard park and NYC GreenThumb Community Gardens provide vital green space for residents and the neighborhood.
In addition to its landmark environment achievements, Sendero Verde embraces a “Community of Opportunity” model. Comprising 709 affordable housing units, the building also integrates social services, supportive housing programs, and a K-5 school that prioritizes local families. By combining sustainability, affordability, and community-focused design, Sendero Verde sets a new global benchmark for equitable urban development.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
