    Stephen Hegedus AIA

    Senior Associate

Stephen Hegedus joined Handel Architects as a Senior Associate in 2022, bringing 22 years of experience in a variety of building types and scales.

Stephen is drawn to the profession’s ability to profoundly impact human behavior and experience of built environments. His belief that architecture is a democratic act has allowed him the opportunities to create buildings and spaces that benefit the communities they serve.

An expert in large urban infill developments with mixed-use programs, Stephen’s focus has been housing and exploring architecture’s relationship to the public realm and cityscape while leading teams through all phases of a project’s lifecycle. Prior to joining Handel, he held leadership positions at WRNS Studio, BAR Architects and David Baker Architects where he has successfully built over 2,300 units of housing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stephen’s current work includes a mixed-used high-rise project in Denver’s RiNo district, Four Seasons Private Residences at Lake Austin and 618 Octavia, a 40-unit condominium project in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood.

Stephen is a licensed architect in California. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) after studying industrial design at California State University, Northridge with an emphasis on furniture design. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, The Urban Land Institute, San Francisco Planning + Urban Research (SPUR) and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.
