Senior Associate

Thomas Florkewicz is an Architect with over 30 years of experience working on complex mixed-use projects, with a focus on mixed-use residential buildings.

Mr. Florkewicz is currently managing the exterior envelope Construction Documents effort for The Geneva, a new adaptive reuse residential project in Washington, DC. Previously, he served as Senior Technical Architect for Handel Architects’ 1.8M SF Passive House project in Boston, Winthrop Center. Recently completed, the project includes public space, commercial office, and 317 for-sale residences. Previously Mr. Florkewicz served in a similar role for Inspir Carnegie Hill, a 212-unit luxury residential building for seniors, developed and operated by Maplewood, and was part of the Construction Administration teams for Pier 57 and The Central at 5th.

Mr. Florkewicz joined Handel Architects in 2016 after working at Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects. While there he worked on the renovation of the 1920’s B. Altman Building into the Graduate Center for CUNY, and as Project Manager for the renovation of a 1920’s – era office building to the 1Hotel Central Park. More recently, he was co-Project Architect and Construction Administration director for the 26-story W Hoboken Hotel and Residential Condominiums.

Mr. Florkewicz has specific expertise in building envelopes, construction materials and uses, and Construction Administration. He has served as a consultant assisting architects and owners with envelope design and specification solutions for new and existing structures, providing Construction Administration services and site observation/ quality assurance reviews.

Mr. Florkewicz often oversees the project team’s technical development and internal coordination of the document set, as well as the QA/QC during the Construction Documentation phase.
