    Stephen Sheng AIA LEED AP

    Senior Associate

    Stephen Sheng is a Senior Associate with over 20 years of experience in large-scale urban mixed-use projects. While at Handel Architects, he has served as a Project Manager and Project Designer for a variety of project types in cities globally. Mr. Sheng is currently serving as Project Manager for a new Passive House dormitory for the University of Toronto Scarborough. Recent work includes the planning and design of a new residential development in Crystal City, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC., and leading the firm’s master planning efforts in downtown Houston, Texas. Other work includes a mixed-use office and retail complex in Santiago, Chile, and a new 400,000 sq.ft. Life Science Center on the South Boston Waterfront.

    Previously Mr. Sheng was the Design Principal and Hong Kong Director for the firm Mix StudioWorks; he opened the firm’s Hong Kong office in 2009. Prior to that he served as Vice-President and Design Principal at the Jerde Partnership, where he focused on urban mixed-use projects from concept through construction. Built projects he worked on include the widely-published Roppongi Hills in Tokyo and the award winning Dubai Festival City Waterfront Centre. Other project experience includes the Beijing Hotel Wangfujing Retail Corner, The Shops at the Shanghai World Financial Center, the Banyan Tree Hotel on the Bund in Shanghai, the Arcade at Cyberport in Hong Kong and the Jing’An mixed-use development in the heart of Shanghai.

    Stephen received his Master of Architecture degree with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. Stephen has served on numerous academic juries in Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
